Busy?

Lately I haven't been as productive as I would like. I blame the frigid weather. My painted objects have been at a standstill for weeks and I haven't been drawing as much as I would like. On a more positive note, my brother and I beat New Super Mario Bros. and collected all the star coins. Oh. That's where my time has been going. The picture above is for something I've been working on at work.

Matthew Lyons

Beautiful movie title screens from Matthew Lyons. The typography is spot on with his retro style of illustration. Really genius idea, too. Since the movies are all made up, he can really show off his skills in pairing type and narrative without having to be bogged down by preconceived opinions about a particular film. Wish I could bottle these up and take a swig of his talent.

Sights

I'm back from vacation and I have lots of pictures to prove it! I saw many things, felt many degrees (or lack thereof) of cold, ate many foods, and enjoyed every second of it--even the parts where I turned into icicles. Upon my return, I was greeted with a beautiful Gestalten book, Naive: Modernism and Folklore in Contemporary Graphic Design. Open the book up to any spread and prepare to be inspired. A very welcome addition to my library.

Mr. Fancypants

I just finished uploading some new images of my latest project. Introducing: Mr. Fancypants! Complete with monocle and removable top hat! I probably should've constructed the hat out of a different, more forgiving, material, but oh well. You live and you learn. I added this to the Miscellaneous section of my website. Clicking on the pictures will take you to the Flickr set. There's lots of new pics over in my photostream, so check them all out while you're in the neighborhood.

Accidental Art

This composition just happened while on my way to a different image. It's funny how things like that occur without premeditation. Although not revolutionary by any stretch of the word, I love it when I am able to create things that I find to be intriguing without actually meaning to.

Custom Christmas Gift Tags

I made these Christmas gift tags to give my presents a little hand-made quality. Originally, I was planning on making all of my actual gifts, but the holidays snuck up on me and I found myself drastically short on time. Using my collection of stamps, I was still able to give away some of my artwork, if only in a scaled-down version of what I had intended. They're tiny little prints that fit intimately in the palm of your hand!
